MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL HAS ANNOUNCED IT'S ELIGIBILITY LIST FOR THE HALL OF FAME. FOR THOSE WHO RUN THE MAJOR LEAGUES IT'S A MATTER OF THE CHICKENS COMING HOME TO ROOST. THE VOTERS WILL BE ASKED FOR THE FIRST TIME TO DECIDE WHETHER STEROID USERS SHOULD BE ADMITTED TO THE HALL.
FIRST WE HAVE MARK MCGWIRE..WHO EMBARASSED HIMSELF IN THOSE CONGRESSIONAL HEARINGS WHEN ASKED ABOUT STEROIDS...BUT WHO ALSO HIT 583 HOMERS...INCLUDING 49 IN HIS ROOKIE YEAR.
ALSO ON THE BALLOT FOR THE FIRST TIME...ADMITTED STEROID USER AND BEST SELLING AUTHOR ON THE SUBJECT JOSE CANSECO...ALONG WITH ANOTHER CONFESSED ABUSER KEN CAMINITI.
ALL THREE OF THESE PLAYERS PLAYED THE GAME WHILE THOSE WHO RAN BASEBALL WERE INTERESTED ONLY IN HOW MANY TICKETS THE HOME RUN BATTLE BETWEEN MCGWIRE AND SAMMY SOSA WOULD SELL..AND AT LEAST TACITLY ENCOURAGED STEROID USE. SOME 575 MEMBERS OF THE BASEBALL WRITERS OF AMERICA ARE NOW GOING TO HAVE TO DECIDE WHETHER STEROID USE SHOULD BE FACTORED INTO THEIR VOTING EQUATION.
AND WHILE MCGWIRE, CANSECO AND CAMINITI "IS" ON THE BALLOT.........A RATHER WELL KNOWN NON-STEROID USER REMAINS OFF THE BALLOT. AND PETE ROSE WAITS ANOTHER YEAR.
